It all started with a simple insight from a YouTube video: when founders personally ask why customers leave, they almost always respond. That's when I knew we needed to make this scale.
"Hey, I noticed you cancelled your subscription. I'm the founder, and I'd love to understand why. Please it would really help us improve."
99% response rate
As someone deeply involved in the indie hacker community, I've always been fascinated by the relationship between products and their users. But it was a random YouTube video that changed everything.
In the video, a solo founder shared something remarkable: whenever they personally emailed customers who cancelled, asking why they left, they got responses 99% of the time. These weren’t just quick replies. They were detailed, honest insights into what wasn’t working.
This hit me hard. Here was this incredibly valuable feedback just waiting to be uncovered, but most companies never ask, or ask in ways that feel automated and impersonal. I knew there had to be a better way.
That’s why I created WhyLeft. I wanted to build a tool that could capture the authenticity and effectiveness of a founder personally reaching out, but at scale. A system that would not just collect feedback, but understand it, find patterns, and help businesses build better relationships with their customers.
